However, news has emerged suggesting that there might be a chance that dreams of a Nintendo Switch Pro are still attainable, and it could happen soon.
News reports suggest that the OLED model of the Nintendo Switch was originally intended to support 4K, as many gamers hoped. Some anonymous developers have said that the Switch OLED development kits provided to them support 4K, with Nintendo insisting their titles deal extensively with the new feature. Due to technology shortages, the chip needed for the functionality was not available, leaving developers with potentially 4K compatible Switch games that they cannot yet use.

In a report on the lost functionality of the OLED Switch, anonymous developers hinted that they weren’t even told that the OLED Switch had to go without 4K until its trailer released. It left them wondering what to do with the games they were developing, but they quickly mentioned that they didn’t care. Apparently, they already have an idea of when these games can be released in the future.
Many developers who received this 4K Switch SDK mention that they feel their games may be released sometime in 2022, targeting the mid-year or the holiday season. While that might just be their guess as to when they can work backwards and make gaming more suitable for a current Switch, it’s possible that a 4K-capable Switch will be announced at least midway through 2022. It looks like the only thing holding Nintendo back from releasing its new, more powerful hybrid console was simply not having the chip in time for the OLED console.

When it comes to the odds of a Nintendo Switch Pro coming out in 2022 after OLED, Nintendo’s track record of updating devices should be kept in mind. Technology is an ever-changing industry, and if Nintendo can find a way to innovate its current console, it will find its way into the market one way or another. Some people may think that releasing another Switch this early is a risky decision with sales, but Nintendo has implemented similar market strategies over the past few years.
Nintendo’s strategy of releasing improved and improved versions of its products has been observed since the early 2000s, starting with the Game Boy Advance. The Game Boy Advance SP and Micro were released in 2003 and 2005. The same was observed for the DS and the DSi respectively. With 3DS, releases became annual, so much so that many fans joked that buying a console would just lead Nintendo to announce another.

With that in mind, fans who still want a Nintendo Switch Pro may want to save their money and see if it comes to fruition.
