Maybe you’ve tried downloading games to your Switch, you might have gotten a message due to lack of space. Not everyone knows how much space they have by heart! I know no. But in Nintendo’s latest Switch update, there is now a useful functionality.

It’s actually fairly easy. Below are patch notes:

Worm. 12.1.0 (Posted July 5, 2021)

Added the following system functionality:

If there is not enough space remaining on the system memory (internal storage) or microSD card while downloading the game software update data, you can now delete the old data of this software, which allows you to download the new data.

When deleting the old data, you will not be able to play the game until the download of the new data is complete.

General system stability improvements have been made to improve the user experience.

See? Simple! But for a long time. Now I guess people can easily make room for their downloads instead of getting an error message. We will see!

The update also added “general system stability improvements,” which seems to be a recurring phrase in Nintendo’s patch notes.

Last month, Switch owners were having issues downloading games after an earlier stability update. As Kotaku reported at the time, a number of Switch users were receiving a specific error code, 2123-1502, while trying to download games and updates with firmware ver.12.0.3 installed on their systems.

The latest update sounds like a useful one, but as any Switch owner can probably tell you, there is an exhaustive list of things that could or should be added. Maybe Nintendo will take care of it. Finally.

(* cough * records * cough *)

If you are not sure if you are using the current version, as Nintendo points out, you can verify via the system menu and update manually from the system settings.
