The new Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite update has raised privacy concerns among Nintendo fans. Specifically, with the new update 11.0, Nintendo has once again enabled data sharing through Google Analytics. If that sounds familiar to you, it’s because it did it about a month ago as well, and unless you’ve manually disabled it, you’ve been sharing your data through Google Analytics ever since.
At the time of publication, it’s unclear why Nintendo has turned data sharing on for all users again, but if you don’t want to share your data, head over to Nintendo eShop. From there, click on your profile at the top right of the screen, then scroll down until you find “Google Analytics Preferences”. From there you can change it to “Do not share”.
Having said that, you will have to do it manually, even if you have opted out in the past because the new update rolled back that. Of course, it’s not unusual or unreasonable for Nintendo to harvest data from its users, but doing so by continually re-enabling User Data Sharing even after it has been disabled is much less acceptable, especially if you don’t. alert the user in the process.
Again, as of yet, Nintendo hasn’t provided any explanation as to why the update did this, and at this point, it’s unlikely to be the case. After all, previous updates have done the exact same thing and there has never been a statement or clarification.
