Our active weather pattern continues to produce more winter storms, with one new one expected to impact New Jersey over the next three days and potentially a second imminent this coming weekend, forecasters said Tuesday afternoon.
The next winter storm is likely to arrive in two waves – the first from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning and the second from Thursday evening to Friday morning, said Dean Iovino, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s regional forecast office in New Jersey. .
A good trend, if you have had enough of all that snow: “Most of the snow will be a little further south” than originally expected, said Iovino.
As a result, the storm system is likely to hit places like Maryland and southern Delaware with heavy snowfall, and bring lighter accumulations of snow to New Jersey, Iovino said.

In the first wave of the storm Wednesday evening and early Thursday, the National Weather Service forecasts 2-3 inches of snow in southern Jersey, 1-3 inches of snow in central Jersey and less than an inch in the north from Jersey.
There is some potential for mixed precipitation and rime in extreme southern New Jersey, mostly near the coast, Iovino said.

In the second wave of the storm, mainly Thursday evening to early Friday, the weather service expects another 1 to 2 inches of snow in southern Jersey and little, if any, snow in the half upstate, if current forecasts continue.
AccuWeather forecasters are calling for similar snowfall amounts throughout the duration of this storm: a total of 1-3 inches of snow in North Jersey and Central Jersey, and 3-6 inches of snow in South Jersey.
Once that storm system clears up on Friday afternoon, all eyes will be on a possible coastal storm over the weekend.
“The timing and the track are very uncertain right now,” Iovino said, so the weather service is not yet sure how much snow, if any, New Jersey will receive this weekend.
Thanks to a big snowstorm the week before Christmas and the monster winter storm that knocked 1 to 2 feet of snow down over a wide swath of our area, parts of northern and central New Jersey have already received over snow than they normally receive during all snowfall. season – which technically lasts from October to April.

In the Newark area, this month is currently the snowiest February 10 on record – and we have 19 days to go. Newark picked up 21.7 inches of snow from Feb. 1-8, according to data from the National Weather Service’s New York regional office.
The Newark area normally receives 9.3 inches of snow for the entire month and its record is 33.4 inches, set in 1994.
