NJ Weather: The winter storm could dump up to 1 foot of snow. Updates on the schedule, track, forecast maps.

New Jersey will have a double photo of the winter weather over the next few days – the coldest conditions for months on Friday, then a likely long-lasting northern summer snowstorm that begins on Sunday and could fall until ‘to 8 inches of snow over the state by Monday night, according to the National Weather Service.

While AccuWeather.com said the storm could deliver as much as a foot of snow to parts of New Jersey before it departs on Tuesday, the National Weather Service’s first projections only last until 7 p.m. Monday. The storm is expected to persist until Tuesday morning, so the next weather service forecast update should provide a more complete snow forecast.

The current outlook from the New Jersey Weather Service office predicts that the majority of the state will receive 4-6 inches with a pocket in southern Middlesex, western Monmouth and the Western Ocean counties from 6 to 8 inch.

Usually the hardest hit northwest New Jersey is shown with 1 to 3 inches on Monday evening, with the coastal areas of the Atlantic and Cape May receiving mostly rain.

The Accuweather snowfall forecast map, however, shows North Jersey to be 6 to 12 inches tall, with 3 to 6 inches along the I-95 corridor. Both forecasts note the uncertainty in the amounts of snowfall with the storm still a few days away. Forecasters again noted that a change in the storm’s path will affect the location of the rain / snow line.

Snow is expected to start to fall lightly Sunday afternoon and evening – less than an inch is expected before midnight. Expect bands of moderate to heavy precipitation overnight through Monday, as two low pressure systems join off the coast, the weather service said in its discussion of the forecast on Friday morning.

Strong winds will also be a factor during this storm, with forecasters indicating that an advisory could be issued for the coastal area.

In the meantime, New Jersey will face freezing conditions on a sunny and windy Friday. Wind chill values ​​are single digits starting at 7 a.m. and won’t climb much during the day – temperatures will hit the 20’s, but gusts of 35-45 mph will make it seem a little colder.

A wind advisory was issued until 4 p.m. Friday by the New York office of the National Weather Service for the counties of Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Union and Hudson.

Temperatures from Friday night to Saturday will dip into single-digit numbers in northwestern areas and be only a few degrees warmer elsewhere.

Saturday will be sunny and cold again, although the winds will diminish considerably and it will not be so cold. The peaks will not be again until the 1920s.
