The results will be much faster

SANTA FE – The dangerous spike in COVID cases statewide has led to more testing, which can lead to delays in receiving results.

NMDOH is taking action to reduce the gap in turnaround times. Both negative and positive test results will now be sent via email and SMS, which will speed up results to the public.

Everyone will be opted into this form of communication when registering for a test at cv.nmhealth.org. Therefore, it is imperative that people provide a valid email and cell phone number when registering.

In the past, only those who tested negative and chose to receive test results via text message and / or email were notified in this way. Those who tested positive received a phone call.

“That’s a real problem. Less than half of the people called by DOH and our partners respond,” Acting Health Secretary Billy Jimenez said. “If you are tested for COVID, or if you have been exposed, isolate yourself until you receive your results. The virus is so prevalent in our state right now that everyone should assume it – and everyone it comes in contact with – has been infected. This way we can set an example of good public health behavior in our daily lives. “

NMDOH recommends that people stay home after the test while waiting for their results. Those who receive a positive SMS confirmation of COVID should click on the link provided in the message to learn how to take care of themselves and their families.

These same guidelines can be found on the COVID website available here. NMDOH Contact Tracers will continue to follow up with a personal phone call to each positive person. Again, it is essential that people answer the call.
