BLACKSBURG, Virginia – Inside Carolina is at Lane Stadium for the North Carolina season opener at Virginia Tech. The UNC is entering its 2021 campaign as a top 10 team for the first time in 24 years. UNC are chasing their first victory at Lane Stadium since 2015. The two previous clashes between the teams at Blacksburg included a six-overtime loss, 43-41 in 2019 and a 59-7 loss in 2017. UNC is 2-0 in season starters since Mack Brown returned to the program.

The game kicks off at 6:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. Jason Benetti, Andre Ware and Paul Carcaterra are on call.

First shift

Second quarter

-Ty Chandler rushes for 2 yards, 3rd and 10 of UNC 32. Howell scrambles for 14 yards and a first UNC down. Howell switches to Green for a first try. The UNC is hurrying. Back-to-back races for Chandler, first at Tech 29. Marcus McKethan injured on play, leaves on his own. Howell is sacked, 2nd and 11. Chandler runs for 4 yards, 3rd and 7 for Tech 26. Howell sacked for a loss of 13, taking UNC out of the field goal.

Pre-match injury report: Beau Corrales is absent indefinitely after announcing that he had undergone surgery this week, he confirmed on Twitter on Friday. Khafre Brown and Brian Anderson are dressed and have had warm-ups.
