ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Classes are canceled for Thursday, October 7 at Mansfield ISD Timberview High School in Arlington following Wednesday morning’s shooting that injured four people.
“It is so important that the Timberview High School community has time to heal, and therefore, there will be no school for Timberview High School on Thursday,” Principal Derrell Douglas said in a letter. to parents Wednesday afternoon.
He said there would be counseling services available at Word of Truth Church, Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts as well as virtual counseling.
Suspect Timothy George Simpkins, 18, surrendered to police hours after the shooting.
The teenager was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with bail set at $ 25,000 for each count.
The shooting is the result of a conflict between two teenagers in a classroom.
Police allege Simpkins brought a gun to school and at some point during or after this fight pulled out the 45 caliber handgun and started shooting.
A 15-year-old student was hit by at least one gunshot. A 25-year-old teacher was also injured. They both remain hospitalized.

Police said Simpkins left campus after the shooting.
They said the weapon used in the crime was found about three kilometers from the school.
At approximately 1:00 p.m., SImpkins, accompanied by a lawyer, surrendered to the police.
“What we thought happened,” Asst said. Chief Kevin Kolbye of the Arlington Police Department, “A fight between the student and another individual in the class, and a gun was used. When officers heard over the radio that there was a teacher in distress, officers immediately went to that classroom and an officer heard gunshots as he was going upstairs.
Arlington Police have confirmed that ATF Dallas Field Division, Mansfield Police, Grand Prairie Police and Mansfield ISD Police conducted a “systematic search” of the campus.
Ass. Chief Kolbye also confirmed that all of the students in Timberview had been evacuated.
There were some 1,700 students reunited with their families.
Victim Services were called in to help the students.

Dear Parents and Guardians of Timberview High School:
It was a devastating day, and we are still bringing our students and parents together; but we would like to thank you for your cooperation, patience, understanding and kind words as we come to understand what happened.
Today’s shooting was traumatic. We are very grateful that there have been no fatalities and reports indicate that the injured are expected to recover.
It is so important that the Timberview High School community has time to heal, and therefore, there will be no school for Timberview High School on Thursday October 7th. All extracurricular activities, including track and field events and games, will also be canceled. . In addition, the October 8 parent-teacher conferences will be postponed to a later date.
Counseling services will be available tomorrow for students, staff and families to help individuals begin to understand what happened. Services will be available in person and virtually. Please see the details of the tips below:
