KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) – The receiver of suspended Tyreek Hill chiefs will not be charged with criminal charges.
A police investigation into what happened to his 3-year-old son is now officially closed.
It's a dark cloud of uncertainty hanging over Hill and Kansas City leaders for months.
The NFL was waiting to find out what the prosecutor would do and the leaders were waiting for news from the NFL. So this has a domino effect and plays in favor of Hill.
Hill was suspended from all activities related to the team after the audio had surfaced in which he was talking about abusing his son. Hill also told his fiancée, Crystal Espinal, that she should be "terrified" by him during an eleven-minute discussion that took place at a Dubai airport.
The audio surfaced a day after prosecutors refused to lay charges against Hill following an investigation into domestic violence. They said at the time that they were convinced that a crime had been committed but that they were not able to determine whether it was Hill or Espinal who had hurt their son.
Johnson County Attorney Steve Howe reopened the case after receiving KCTV5 News audio. Howe says that he believes that a crime has been committed, but it's not a case that he can bring to court.
KCTV5's investigative service received a tape recording from Tyreek Hill and her fiancé discussing the police investigation and what they told the police.
"A child has been injured and as a prosecutor and father of four, I am frustrated when someone hurts a child and you can not do anything about it," he said at his conference. April 24th press.
Other relatives of the investigation told KCTV5 that this case was suffering from a lack of cooperation from relatives of the child. The police received anonymous information, but few wanted to be registered and testify against the NFL superstar.
Context
Hill is an assailant convicted by the chiefs and John Dorsey, then chief executive, despite many red flags.
He had been expelled from the Oklahoma State team after hitting and strangling Espinal while she was pregnant, and many teams said that the recording of this incident had earned them completely remove Hill from the planks.
Hill and Espinal would reconnect later and even get engaged. The young family was a story of redemption and second chance until it crumbled.
The DCF and the criminal investigation were conducted under the spotlight of the public, and the parents moved into the hearings and eventually lost custody.
The sound of a conversation recorded between parents highlights the difficult task of investigators in this case. Espinal accuses Hill of breaking their son's arm and other abusive behaviors, but also tells him that she covered him with investigators.
Hill's lawyer sent a letter to the NFL in which he stated that the Chiefs player "categorically denies" hitting his young son in the chest and reaffirming that he was not involved when his arm was broken. The letter, written by lawyer N. Trey Pettlon, made numerous references to Espinal's insinuations in a recorded conversation that was first discovered by KCTV5.
The letter also states that this SMS exchange was discovered on Hill's mobile phone:
Hill: "Crystal, you know I did not cause any bruising or any harm to [our son,] But for some reason, I can still be charged. "
Espinal: "I know you did not do it. I did it. I hurt [our son] I am the one who did it. I was hurt and angry at you, so I blamed you for everything.
In the end, you have a wounded little boy, a sound leak that depicts both parents in a bad light, then text messages that completely contradict the words of the boy and his mother.
A lack of cooperation in domestic violence cases is common. The victims are scared and fear losing the little emotional and financial stability that they may have.
New charges were brought against Tyreek Hill, the main receiver of the All-Pro Wide team.
And this case does not seem to be different. It's just that the stakes were higher with a football player about to sign a record deal and a fiancée pregnant with twins. The truth is that criminal charges would devastate both parents.
For the moment, the investigation into the DCF continues, which means that the objectives of the responsibility and any criminal charges are replaced by counseling, support and possibly reunification. Proof of this is already underway as Hill posted a video of him playing with his son this week.
Espinal must have the twins every day and she stays separated from Hill.
