While Godzilla vs. Kong will undoubtedly determine who the actual King of the Monsters is, fans expecting the hit Hollywood lore of a post-credits scene setting up a sequel will be left behind … so.
According to an interview with Syfy Wire, director Adam Wingard said footage previously planned for a post-credits scene was used elsewhere in the film instead.
“We actually shot a post-credits scene, but ended up using it in the movie,” Wingard told Syfy Wire. “[It was] one of those things where we shot it as an idea, and we got into the editorial and realized that “ we need a moment at a certain point in the movie ”, [so] we ended up taking those footage and using it in a different context in the movie and it really, really worked for us. “

Wingard implies whether or not the continuation of the Monsterverse films will depend on how Godzilla performs against Kong at the box office.
“I think it’s 100% the right choice [not to have a post-credits scene] because it is the crossroads of the Monsterverse, “Wingard said.” The public has to vote whether they want to see more or not. If people show up and like the movie, then there will be more. IGN gave Godzilla vs. Kong a seven out of 10, calling it the “proper reunion” for two of cinema’s biggest titans. While IGN reviewer Zaki Hasan says the film features plenty of monster versus monster fights, Wingard says future films may move even further away from the human narratives that persist throughout each franchise.
“If there’s a sequel, we’re going to get less into a human storyline and more into a hyper-realistic animated film vibe to these things,” Wingard said. “I think we can start to look more into the monsters.”
