More details to come “very soon”.

No Man’s Sky is celebrating five (extremely eventful) years since launching today, and developer Hello Games has served up a small match for the next big exploratory space simulation update, Frontiers, as part of the festivities.

While No Man’s Sky’s calming exploratory pace certainly found its fans when it launched on August 9, 2016, its arrival was notoriously marked by immediate and sustained controversy when players discovered that some of the features discussed prior to its release were absent from the final game. Hello Games has embarked on a truly astounding post-launch development journey since then, and has now released a total of 16 named – and in some cases totally transformative – updates for the ever-expanding space simulation.

We have seen the introduction of base construction, bobblehead figures, farming, cross-platform multiplayer, virtual reality support, customizable giant space freighters, land and water vehicles, pilotable robots , living ships, alien infested space wrecks, new flora and fauna, pets, live service style community expeditions, musical tools, major revisions to the game’s planetary generation technology, spicy visual enhancements for next-gen consoles, sandworms (finally!), and more.

The result of all of that monumental dedication is, assuming you’re not completely averse to its decidedly craft-oriented core, a dizzying (albeit messy at times) sci-fi sandbox delight.

And Hello Games is still not finished, it seems. As part of today’s anniversary celebrations, the studio released a video retrospective of everything that has happened to No Man’s Sky over the past five years, culminating in a match for its next big update, Frontiers.

There’s not much to see right now – just a logo – and the only clue as to what that can bring is this title. Are we on the eve of multi-biome planets? Mass settlements built by gamers? Hello Games says it will be sharing more about the update “very soon”.
