No one in GOP wears the "voice of reason"

Cindy McCain said the Republicans had failed to perpetuate her husband's bipartisan legacy since her death a year ago.

"I do not see anyone wearing this coat at all, I do not see anyone wearing the voice – the voice of reason," McCain told ABC News. "It was a torch hard to bear, and as John said, there were a lot of lonely days because he always said what he thought."

The late Senator died on August 25, 2018, at the age of 81, of an aggressive form of brain cancer. He spent his last years fighting against certain statements and positions of President Trump.

The president continued to hit the former prisoner of war after his death, sometimes putting South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a close friend of the McCain family and Trump's ally, in a delicate position.

"Lindsey has her own political career to worry about and her own political life," McCain said. "I only hope that in the long run, everyone will start going in the right direction, including Lindsey or anyone else."

"Lindsey is part of my family," she says. "It's a good friend and I can not, [and] will not be, Lindsey's criticism. "

To honor the senator, the McCain family is launching a new initiative entitled "Acts of Civility" that aims to overcome divisions in politics.
