RENO, Nevada – A twin-engine plane crash near a golf course in the Lake Tahoe area killed everyone on board and sparked a wildfire that was quickly contained before threatening the town of Truckee, in California, authorities said on Monday.

It was not immediately clear how many people were on board the Bombardier CL 600. The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane crashed at 1:18 p.m. Monday as the pilot attempted to land at nearby Truckee-Tahoe Airport.

The owner of the plane and the flight plan were not immediately made public, although authorities later said it could have been from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho or Florida.

The CL 600 is a multi-seater business jet with two engines mounted at the rear of the fuselage and a distinctive T-shaped tail. The jet can hold up to 14 passengers and two crew members.

Nevada County officials could not confirm the number of people on the plane on Monday.

No one on the ground was injured when the plane struck a wooded area near the Ponderosa golf course, a few blocks from the airport.

Nevada County Coroner Shannan Moon said he was happy the plane did not hit any homes.

An FAA statement said the agency and the National Transportation Safety Board would investigate the crash.
