No, there is no plan for Celeste

As the last free DLC installment falls next weekCeleste developer Matt Thorson has confirmed that there is no plan to create a suite for the independent platform game Celeste.

"We do not really want to do a sequel to [Celeste]Thorson told IGN. "Maybe in the future we will change our minds, but for the moment we do not know how we could do justice afterwards. In addition, we are much more interested in creating new information for our next release. "

As Jordan detailed earlier this weekCeleste receives a lot of new content via the free DLC Chapter 9: Farewell Pack, which will add more than 100 new levels and more than 40 hours of music by BAFTA-nominated composer Lena Raine. The update will be available for free on all platforms on September 9, although the Xbox One version "may" arrive at a later date due to development issues.

Do not get used to such generous gifts, though. Reflecting on Chapter 9, Thorson admitted that Chapter 9 was only possible because Celeste had almost sold a million copies, which really "gave [them] space to create on [their] own terms for the near future ".

"First of all, we should really pay for it," Thorson said, explaining that they "do not like expectations, that extensions of this size are free."

"We want our audience to be clear that we can only publish it for free, because we are in a very privileged position at the moment," they said, "and that is really not a reasonable thing to expect from any developer, including us, in the future ".

As for the sequel for the developer? The newly created Extremely OK Games studio is in the early stages of developing a new game, but we will learn more about it "at the right time".

Celeste is one of the Switch's best independent games, but here are some other independent gems on Switch.
