Nokia says its phones sent data to China in error

The company also rejected the message that other phones would send similar data. Every Nokia phone outside of China sends device data to Global HMD Servers (provided by Amazon Web Services) in Singapore, the company said, and complies with local laws.

This will not necessarily end the Finnish survey and claims about the nature of the data do not paint a complete picture. Although they do not directly identify a person, they can be used with corroborating information to get a clearer picture of that person's life. Nevertheless, the problem seems to have been solved – it is only an unpleasant reminder that a mistake at the factory is enough to put the data at risk.
