Florida State Sporting director David Coburn released a statement on Saturday morning following the announcement of the match day decision to postpone the Seminoles’ home game against Virginia. This is the second weekend in a row that FSU’s home game has been postponed on game day due to COVID-19 issues.

“Our team underwent the commissioned third-party testing yesterday and learned late that night that we had tested positive,” Coburn said in the statement. “Contact tracing this morning determined that with churns and injuries, we only had 44 player purses for the game, with some groups of positions almost sold out.

“We deeply regret that many fans from Florida and Virginia have already been to the game as well as Team Virginia. We just had no way of knowing we weren’t going to play until this morning. We made every effort to play, but we couldn’t do it in a way that was safe for the players.

More details regarding the rescheduled match, including ticket information, will be announced at a later date
