NOPD makes swift arrest as part of eighth district shooting investigation

The NOPD arrested Shawn A. Breaux Jr. (photo, black male, DDN: 12-05-1991) in connection with the ongoing investigation into an aggravated gunshot battery that occurred on October 8, 2021 in Block 100 of the rue Carondelet which left three injured people.

Just before 9:00 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers were notified of the incident and promptly responded to the scene. During an investigation, officers determined that two male subjects had approached the area and allegedly started firing shots which hit three male victims. A victim was taken to a local hospital via EMS for treatment of several gunshot wounds. The other two victims arrived at local hospitals by private transport, one with a gunshot wound to the hip and the other with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Shortly after the incident, a subject was reportedly seen entering a vehicle in an attempt to escape officers. The subject, formally identified as Breaux, was apprehended shortly after. A second suspect has fled and is still at large.

Breaux was incarcerated at the Orléans parish justice center for two counts of criminal in possession of a firearm, one count of illegal handling of a machine gun, one count of aggravated flight of an officer and a chief illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
