Norah O Donnell debuted as anchor of the CBS Evening News tonight.
The newscast started with O'Donnell covering the president Donald TrumpTweets after Congress women Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley.
Among the critics expressed about the categorization of the president's tweets by the newspaper, journalists O'Donnell and the correspondent of CBS News at the White House Weijia Jiang both referred to Trump's "racist tweets" without qualifiers.
O'Donnell closed his first show by quoting Edward R. Murrow saying, "This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and even that can inspire. But it can only do so to the extent that humans are determined to use it for these purposes. Otherwise, they are just wires and lights in a box. There is a great and perhaps a decisive battle to be waged against ignorance, intolerance and indifference. This TV weapon could be useful.
