HOLLY RIDGE, N.C. (AP) – Federal officials have announced that a North Carolina company was recalling 28 tonnes of "hot-filled sandwiches" across the country.
The Charlotte Observer reported Saturday that the recall stemmed from fears that plastic may have entered the food.
J & J Snack Foods handhelds are located in Holly Ridge, near the coast. The Food Inspection and Safety Service of the US Department of Agriculture warned consumers not to eat pepperoni and ham-cheese sandwiches sold in 9-ounce packages with the best dates of consumption August 12, 2020 and August 13, 2020.
The Charlotte Observer was unable to immediately join a spokesperson for J & J Snack Foods on Saturday.
The USDA said the company was recalling 56,000 pounds of products manufactured two days late February that could contain "semi-transparent plastic".
