NOTNorth Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson is facing calls for resignation after video emerged calling him “transgender” and homosexual as “filth.”

Robinson, a Republican, said students shouldn’t be taught about “transgender, homosexuality, any of that filth” in classrooms, prompting calls for his resignation as administrators and officials alike. parents are fighting for oversight of school programs.

“There’s no reason anyone anywhere in America should tell kids about transgender, about homosexuality, about all this filth,” Robinson said in the video, which was filmed in June at Asbury Baptist Church. “And yes, I called it dirt.”

The White House, along with gay and transgender rights groups, condemned his comments and called on him to resign.

“These words are disgusting and offensive,” said White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates, from North Carolina, according to multiple media. “The role of a leader is to bring people together and defend the dignity and rights of everyone, not to spread hatred and undermine their own function.”

The Human Rights Campaign called Robinson’s statement “shameful” and “hateful” and said he should resign.

“This is not the first time Robinson has shared his discriminatory views, but it should be the last time he gets away as an elected leader,” the HRC said in a statement. “North Carolinians deserve better than these dehumanizing comments. This incident only reaffirms the serious need for comprehensive protections against discrimination that would prohibit discrimination and make North Carolina a safer place for LGBTQ + people.

Robinson refused to retract on Friday.

“We will not be intimidated. We will not back down. We will not change the language,” Robinson said, according to multiple reports. “The language I used I am not ashamed of. I will use it in the future because, once again, it is time for parents in this state to take a strong stand for their children.”

Representatives for the White House and Robinson did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Washington Examiner.

School administrators, parents and government officials have come up more and more in recent weeks over the degree of parental control over school affairs. Parents have been vocal over the past year in their objections to teaching Critical Race Theory, a philosophy that maintains that American institutions are inherently racist, in classrooms and use masks, which prompted the Justice Department to announce earlier this week it will work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to respond to threats made against teachers and school board members.

Robinson, who was first elected in 2020, has made headlines for other remarks in the past, for example alleging that President Joe Biden is turning the United States into a “socialist hell.”
