A North Carolina man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a mother of six in a road rage incident last week, the sheriff’s office said.
Julie Eberly, 47, of Manheim, Pa., A mother of six was killed on a trip to celebrate her wedding anniversary.
Dejywan Floyd, 29, of Lumberton, was arrested shortly after 12:30 am Thursday at an apartment complex in Lumberton and is charged with first degree murder and unloading a gun on an occupied property, the office said. Robeson County Sheriff in a statement.
He is accused of pulling over next to the GMC Yukon Eberly and her husband were in, rolling the window down and pulling on the passenger side of the couple’s vehicle.
Floyd was in custody without bail Thursday, according to the county detention center. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer. His home phone number could not be found.
Ryan Eberly said that prior to the shooting, he accidentally cut off a driver on I-95 South, forcing that car in the shoulder. The car returned to the right and shots were fired.
“In three minutes, my whole world is upset, and I don’t know why,” Eberly told NBC affiliate WGAL of Lancaster, Pa.
“I saw in my mirror that he was passing us on the right. Shots were fired and our car was hit. My wife shouted my name and I asked if she was hit. She said. yes, ”Ryan Eberly told WGAL.
He pulled up on the freeway and medical help arrived, the sheriff’s office said. His wife was taken to hospital where she died.
Ryan Eberly was not injured. The couple were heading to Hilton Head, South Carolina for a getaway. Robeson County is next to the South Carolina border.
Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said in a statement that surveillance video of businesses and residents was essential in tracking Floyd’s movements. The sheriff’s office donated distributed photos of the car investigators were looking for, and a reward of $ 20,000 was offered.
“Whatever the circumstances, no one deserved to be murdered,” Wilkins said in the statement.
