North Korea sent a threat to the UN Security Council on Sunday, warning the world body against criticism of its nuclear program.
Senior North Korean Foreign Ministry official Jo Chol Su told the council he “had better think about the consequences this would have in the future if he tried to encroach on the sovereignty” of North Korea, The Associated Press reported.
The warning was apparently made in response to France sharing a proposed statement expressing concern over North Korea’s missile testing and calling on the country to ban its missile fire.
Last week, North Korea’s UN envoy Kim Song said the United States must end its “hostile” policy for his country to resume talks.
“But we believe there is no prospect at this stage for the United States to truly withdraw from its hostile policy,” Kim said.
According to a statement released by North Korean state media, Jo accused the UN Security Council of having a “double-play standard” because it does not deal with countries like the United States and its allies. in the same way.
North Korea is banned from engaging in ballistic missile activities under numerous UN Security Council resolutions, the PA noted. Despite this, the isolated country resumed missile testing in September, sending two missiles off its west coast.
As recently as last week, North Korea conducted an anti-aircraft missile test, with state media calling the test “of very practical importance to the study and development of various potential anti-aircraft missile systems.” .
