The coronavirus pandemic has forced school districts in North Texas to be flexible with their calendars this year.
Crowley Independent School District in-person students will return to campuses on Monday after learning virtually since November 19. In Terrell Public Schools, students will stay at home for an additional week.
Crowley ISD has moved all classes online after the COVID-19 outbreaks to several public schools in the city. Students learned virtually from November 19-24. Crowley’s Thanksgiving break was scheduled for November 25-27.
The district’s coronavirus dashboard was last updated on Tuesday and still showed North Crowley High School with 23 staff and 168 students listed as positive for COVID-19 or as close contacts of someone who tested positive .
Five other campuses had at least 20 students in quarantine due to close contact, while Meadowcreek Elementary School had one staff member testing positive but 10 others in quarantine.
Meanwhile, the Terrell Independent School District has extended its Thanksgiving break until December 6 “out of caution” and will resume learning for virtual and in-person students on December 7.
“We encourage our families and employees to use this time to spend with your immediate family, but to continue to distance themselves socially and maintain vigilant health precautions to help stop the spread of COVID-19,” the district wrote. in a press release.
The district said COVID-19 days had been incorporated into its 2020-2021 calendar. Due to the extended Thanksgiving holiday, April 26 and June 1-4 will now become school days.
Terrell ISD’s COVID-19 dashboard does not list quarantined cases, just positive cases.
As of the last update, there were 17 positive cases among students and 13 among staff.
