Northern Trust 2020 rankings: live coverage, golf scores, FedEx Cup, Tiger Woods scores today in the first round

The first FedEx Cup 2020 playoff event kicks off Thursday and the groups are absolutely loaded at TPC Boston for The Northern Trust. The top three in the FedEx Cup standings headed to the event – Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Webb Simpson – are grouped together and will be in a featured group for the first three days as much of it begins for the 125 best players on the PGA Tour.

With only three playoffs, each round is incredibly important, especially for golfers outside the top 70 like Rickie Fowler, Tommy Fleetwood, Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose. (Golfers must be in the top 70 after The Northern Trust to advance to the BMW Championship next week.)

Oh, and former TPC Boston Champion Tiger Woods will make an appearance (the first of three potentially in a row) as he tries to break the all-time record on the PGA Tour (he’s currently tied at 82 years). There are countless storylines as the PGA Tour season comes to a close and the playoffs determine who will take home the $ 60 million at stake over the next three weeks. After a three month hiatus amid the coronavirus pandemic, I’m ready for the playoffs to rock a bit and send us to the US Open in September as the year of golf continues through fall .

CBS Sports will be with you as we update this story with the latest scores, updates and highlights below. Check out the live scores at the top of this story, a more detailed standings, and our comprehensive spectator guide.
