Ten more people have died from COVID-19 in Northland’s 10-county area – the most the region has recorded in a single day.

St. Louis County reported five new deaths on Wednesday, according to its COVID-19 dashboard. All but one lived in a private residence. The other lived in a long-term care facility. Nearly 80% of the 102 residents of Saint-Louis County who have now died from COVID-19 were living in long-term care facilities or assisted living facilities.

People who lived in private residences ranged from 75 to 89 years old. The resident at the long-term care facility was between 90 and 94 years old, depending on the county.

Two other residents of Lake County have died. They were aged 85 to 89 and 90 to 94, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. Six Lake County residents have now died from COVID-19, and all of those deaths occurred in November.

Aitkin County also recorded two more deaths, bringing its death toll to 26. The people were aged 70 to 74 and 95 to 99.

For the first time in six days, none of Northland’s 10 counties have individually broken their record for one-day cases.

Another 301 residents of St. Louis County have tested positive for the coronavirus. This is the third highest daily number of cases in the county. Over the past seven days, the county has recorded an average of 249 new cases per day.

  • Itasca – 56; 64.
  • Carlton – 44 years old; 58.
  • Lake – 16; 16.
  • Aitkin – 6; 21.

The News Tribune will not have an update on COVID-19 on Thursday because the Minnesota Department of Health will not release new numbers on Thanksgiving. Minnesota state updates will resume Friday with data from Wednesday, according to a state press release. Saturday’s update will include data from Thursday and Friday, so the numbers of cases and deaths could appear higher than normal.
