– For investigation purposes, we consider that the case is more or less complete. We are waiting for a technical research on the scooter. We are also waiting for a report of the autopsy. As for the investigation, this is not a very big criminal case. It's more of an accident that is very sad for both the family and other family members, "says investigator Thorbjørn Trommestad in Arendal at NTB.
Police worked to find out when the accident occurred. The former skier (38) was reported missing around 1:00 am on Sunday and was found dead around 12:30 pm Sunday. Saturday night, Skofterud was in Arendal and the police believed that she was coming back from here when she crashed into an island.
During the weekend, police questioned people who saw and met Skofterud before the accident.
– We surely see it in a place near the place of the accident. Things indicate that she drove in the direction of the cabin and unfortunately maneuvered mistakes in the dark and hit the mountain, Drumstad said.
– Perhaps the first dark evening
The last sighting was made around midnight, and so the police believe that the accident occurred shortly after. Police believe that dark and bad visions may have contributed to the wrong maneuvers.
– It was dark right now. It was perhaps the first dark evening this summer. It was cloudy and had rain, says the investigator.
Skofterud was found ashore on the island of St. Helena at Hovekilen near Tromøy in Arendal. The boat was then in a small bay nearby.
– You can assume that she hit the country with the scooter and was injured because of it. These answers will be the autopsy report, Drumstad says.
In addition to waiting for answers to various investigations that are still ongoing, there is not much police work in the case.
– The most important thing here is to make sure that the family is followed up with close relatives, Drumstad says.
– Sad and Difficult
Skofterud was reported missing by his girlfriend Marit Stenshorne when she did not return to the cabin at Tromøy. Earlier in the evening, they had attended a concert together in Arendal. Stenshorne took Instagram Sunday night to put words on her feelings.
– Vibeke, you are my great love, my boyfriend, my love, my hero, my mentor and my best friend. We said: We two forever. We should become old and twisted together. It's going to be so sad and hard without you. You have given me so much positivity, gratitude, laughter, joy, knowledge and love. I like you, writes Stenshorne
Vibeke Skofterud has been for many years in the worldwide elite of cross-country skiing. She created it in 2015. Her biggest athletic athletes have been Olympic relay gold since 2010 and two relay gold medals in 2005 and 2011.
In 2012, Vibeke Skofterud became the first Norwegian Norwegian. She also won an individual gold medal in the sprint in 2002 and had 15 individual palettes in the World Cup.
