Starting in 2021, the number of entries to the World Cup handball, men and women, will increase from 24 to 32 today.
The board of the International Handball Federation (IHF) was elected Thursday at a meeting in Doha, Qatar's capital city.
The decision to extend the World Cup is linked to the wish that more nations have the opportunity to compete and gain experience at the highest level of handball national teams.
The extension is made applicable from the Men's Handball World Cup in Egypt in 2021.
The increase from 24 to 32 teams will apply to the senior, junior and youth levels.
