The worst drought in more than 50 years now affects much of Norwegian agriculture.
The Norwegian Farmers' Association and the Norwegian Farmers' and Small Farmers' Association join forces to seek emergency assistance for peasants affected by the drought. Both farmer organizations believe that the consequences for Norwegian food production can be dramatic.
– This is a precarious situation for Norwegian agriculture with drought and lack of food. The dry and hot weather continues and it should be noted that we are in a situation of urgency. For every day that passes without rain, the chances of saving or improving the situation are reduced by a good crop of grass, "says Lars Petter Bartnes, of the National Federation of Norway, at NTB.
The drought is particularly Sørlandet, but also Rogaland and much of the rest of western Norway and Trøndelag.
Agriculture Minister Jon Georg Dale has already invited farmer organizations to a meeting next Monday to discuss drought. During the meeting, the farmer organizations will ask the government for a preliminary crisis package to save the most Norwegian food
– At the meeting we have concrete elements for a crisis package which we will discuss with the minister. The measures are economic and regulatory changes to the crop damage system that can help the farmer cope better with the difficult situation, "said Bartnes
The Bondage Manager will not define economic measures at this stage and regulatory changes requested by organizations. 19659009] Visited Crisis Farmers
Jon Georg Dale visited farmers Hans Edvard Torp and Jon Hermann Woll-Hansen on the farm of Søndre Rygg in Re in Vestfold on Thursday. Both farmers broke their cereal crops to ensure enough food for the cows, so that they do not let them go to slaughter.
Dale congratulates the two farmers for the cooperation and encourages all the farmers who have the resources to do the same. However, it will not present any concrete promise of a crisis package for agriculture before the meeting with the Norwegian Federation of Farmers and Norwegian farmers and small farmers.
– I have now invited them to a meeting on Monday. It is natural that we discuss these entries there. "I will not renegotiate the agreement on agriculture
The Minister of Agriculture describes the dialogue with peasant organizations as good and says he is ready to evaluate all the proposals , provided that they do not result in a renegotiation of the agricultural treaty.
Up to now, the Government has eliminated tariffs on imports of high and straw products for In addition, this year, subsidies on cereals are granted even though grain becomes a heavy food.
Dale says that he received good comments on the measures that the government has already taken
– Then we must see if we can in the longer term, says Dale.
