The French authorities of the DGAC (General Directorate of Civil Aviation) announced Thursday the arrest of a Boeing 737 of the Irish airline Ryanair.
It was then that the 149-passenger plane was flying from Bordeaux to France to London Stansted that the plane had been visited by the French police. Police stopped the plane at the terminal and boarded it. The pilots then ordered the aircraft to remain standing until the remaining amount was repaid.
The French authorities granted subsidies to Ryanair during the years 2008 and 2009 to allow them to go to the French airport of Angoulême. This support from France was later declared illegal by the European Commission. This is the last half of the total amount, about 520,000 euros.
The French authorities are now asking Ryanair to reimburse this amount, which has been claimed for a long time. Friday night, the French authorities announced to the public that the plane was at the airport until the payment of the amount.
The conflict between the Irish airline and the French authorities has existed since 2014.
The French authorities told the French television channel 2 that it was the last resort in an ongoing dispute between the airline and the French state.
The case was solved overnight and the plane took off on Friday morning.
