There are many more than these ten on the market, and many are completely or somewhat similar calendars that we have tested before. That is why we have only looked at calendars that are new this year, whether in the new edition or that we have never tested before.
See the test results at the bottom of the case.
We tested Christmas calendars for children under 18 years old.
We have only tested a selection of Christmas calendars available on the market.
The ten Christmas calendars are purchased online in mid-October.
We chose calendars that were new this year and chose some of the most famous models that we have tested many times before, while these calendars do not change from year to year.
Our little testers
In this test, there are targeted calendars for kindergarten children.
The test panel includes Erik (3), Emilia (3), Mikkel (4), Alma (4), Fredrik (5) and Sunniva (5) from the Molkeholen nursery in Stavanger.
They did a great job as Christmas calendar testers.
Follow the prices
There is fierce competition in the Christmas calendar market, and you can get the calendars for quite a low price. Especially if you spend time finding the best deals online.
Most calendars are in the price range between 300 and 400 crowns, but it is not necessarily that the most expensive ones are the best.
Difficult to open the calendars
It's unpleasant to open hatches in Christmas calendars – and as frustrating as when it's difficult to get the contents of a calendar.
Most test calendars had at least one challenge regarding openness. Some had hatches that were easy to open, but where you quickly tore up more than you should have. Others had hatches that even adults left open.
A calendar was very bad here. My Little Pony Beauty was completely impossible to open and the cardboard fell quickly. His experience as a calendar has disappeared.
Known and unknown brands
Brio, Hatchimals, Peppa Gris, Paw Patrol and Pysjheltene were known brands of most children.
Sunniva (5) recognized BabyBorn and the children also seemed to recognize Playmobil. The role of the mummy, however, was completely unknown.
"They are devilish," thought Fredrik (5), but he would think he was thinking of mummies and not Mummitroll.
So many things that your child should sleep during the day
Assessment of children
We have enough evidence of how quickly we can open 24 hatches in a Christmas calendar during our test. Someone went very fast and the content of the calendars was very variable.
Sometimes it was simply a matter of collecting most things, then moving on to the next schedule. My Little Pony Beauty was an example of such a schedule.
Other times, the game immediately began with the opening of the Playmobil 1-2-3 calendar, the Schleich Agricultural World and Paw Patrol.
"The hedgehog takes food," says Alma (4) about the agricultural world Schleich. The game starts already when the little hedgehog eats apples and carrots and drinks water in the bowl.
– If we play with all this, ask Sunniva about Paw Patrol and soon, the six children will play together.
The BabyBorn calendar was a bit difficult to share with the kids because it was really about dressing a doll, but Mikkel and Sunniva spent a lot of time.
Both children and we agree that the calendars that led to play were the best.
The test is losing
The loss of the test became Hatchimals, and it was also the schedule that was handed over most immediately. The little figurines were cute, but the accessories were terribly small, hard and boring.
Brio is far in the list because the content was so small. The calendar was first opened with a lot of enthusiasm, but was launched for the youngest. However, we do not doubt that the calendar can be a winner for children who already have a track with which they play.
Favorite children
After the test, we asked the children to tell us which calendar they wanted most from themselves:
- Erik (3): Brio
- Émilie (3): Playmobil 1-2-3
- Mikkel (4): Paw Patrol
- Alma (4): Gray Peppa
- Fredrik (5): My little pony beauty
- Sunniva (5): baby born
It was a little surprising that the six children had different favorites, but it also says a lot about the interest is most important when it comes to calendar selection.
Global mark
Eight out of ten calendars can be safely recommended.
The exceptions are My Little Pony Beauty because the calendar itself was useless and Hatchimals because the content was so disappointing.
The ranking is based on our experience of the game played by the children after their opening and the actual content of the calendars.
