After a sensational season, Jakob Ingebrigtsen has won two prestigious European Athletics Golden Tracks awards at the European Free Trade Association's annual awards ceremony.

The 18-year-old was nominated in two categories during the evening in Lausanne, Switzerland: the year's male performer and "rising star" of the year, distributed to young artists who made their breakthrough on the international scene of the year.

After a longer nomination process, the lists were reduced to a few candidates in addition to Ingebrigtsen. Armand Duplantis, Kevin Mayer and Ramil Guliyev as a male performer of the year, and Duplantis and Jonathan Sacoor as a breakthrough of the year.

The European Athletics Association has chosen to split the "Rising Star" prize between Ingebrigtsen and Duplantis. This has never happened before in the history of distribution. Athletics chairman Ketil Timmernes received the award on behalf of Jakob Ingebrigtsen.

"There is no better performer than Jakob with whom to share this prize," Duplantis said in a video message to the presenter.

Strong candidates

Dugeis and Ingebrigtsen have been nominated in two categories. Duplantis is only a year older than the Norwegian, but has also reached the highest world elite in his sport.

The Stavhopper also took advantage of the opportunity during the summer press session to present one of Berlin 's greatest achievements. Duplantis, just 18, scored seven goals out of eight on the first attempt, beating the U-20 world record. Finally, he finished at 6.05 meters, which is the second hope of time spent on the outside.

Their competitor in this year's male athlete, Ramil Guliyev, 28, also signed a brilliant season. The Turks won the 200 meters at the London World Cup in 2017, followed in the same style this summer. After the seventh inning, Guliyev exploded from the starting blocks and stormed the championship record to 19.76.

But neither Ingebrigtsen, Duplantis or Guliyev went victorious this time.

French winner

The latest candidate for this year's male athlete, Kevin Mayer, has also resigned after breaking the world record on the battlefield earlier this year. In the European Championship, however, the Frenchman failed by scoring three times in the list of lengths.

During the distribution of the evening, he smiled more. Meyer has been named the male athlete of the year.

– It feels good. Since the world record, I've heard about myself every day, but today, I do not want to talk about me anymore. Tonight I want to talk about women. They are good, they are better than us and I encourage them to start with a match, he said from the start. Norwegian Svein Arne Hansen, President of the European Athletics Association, awarded the award.

Warholm won last year

Competitor Ingebrigtsen and Duplantis in the "Rising Star" category, Belgian Jonathan Sacoor, also won gold at the European Championships. At age 19, he ran the third leg for his homeland on a 400-meter ladder. The young man used his leg well around the stadium and passed the stick to Kévin Borlée to ensure victory for Belgium. At the Under-20 World Cup, the Sacoor 400 Metergull was found alone.

This time, the Belgian had to be struck by his two co-nominees.

Last year, Karsten Warholm suffered from this award. Jessica Ennis, Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal and Christophe Lemaitre are also among the winners.

Ingebrigtsen could not be present at the ceremony of the evening as he participates in a summit in Flagstaff, United States, one month in advance.
