Knut Sander (20) was asleep at the time of the collision. I thought it was normal to shake. Then he discovered water on the floor.

Knut Sander (20) had served at KNM Helge Ingstad for six months prior to his collision with tanker Sola TS on Thursday.

He now recounts his experience in Aftenposten.

– Where did you feel the collision?

"I fell asleep on the six-man suction cup, far back, to port, not really far where the ship was hit.

– You had no warning?

– I woke up with the sound and trembling. But it's not so abnormal. It is often detached from the machine, even when the ship is facing larger waves. I did not think about it too much, I thought it was harmless, Sander says.

Having heard the flood warning

– But it only takes a few seconds before I hear a flood cry, which indicates that there is a flood somewhere in the boat. I wake up the others and cry the same message.

– What was the first thing you did after?

"I'm a little in the desert and I hear more screaming, then I raise the curtain and see that there is water on the ground." Then something happens in my mind I realize that it is real … We, the lugares, go out and get on the boat.

– About how much time has elapsed since the collision up to the given evacuation order?

– We have procedures for everything. When something happens, we will meet at an agreed post. I met at gunpoint on the bridge. I do not really know how long it took before we decided to leave the ship and until we were on board a tugboat.

– Normally we will go on board inflatable lifeboats. They were also put in the water, but it was then decided to cross the tug directly, "said Sander.

– A little silly for me

– How was the lighting on board when you took out your ship?

"It's a bit foggy for me, but it was probably darker than usual and the emergency light. When we got on the back deck, the situation started to be bright.

– What did you talk about while all this was happening?

"We are very happy that everyone lives alive and no one is seriously hurt.

"Have you heard of those who have experienced the explosion of their rocker?"

– I learned it after. But they also followed the procedures and came either on tires or on a sought-after treatment. I have spoken to all people and, even though we are affected by the situation, I find that they are doing well.

I have practiced a lot

– How do you check that you have control of everyone?

"We have routines on it, and guests on board also know where to meet.

– Did you experience the evacuation situation safely?

– Yes, very safe. The officers and those who led the evacuation took control. It's also something we practice a lot.

– What was the first thing you did when you landed?

"I think it was at the Sturerminal, we had clothes and drinks.

– Did you see the damage on the boat?

"Not before arriving on the helicopter deck and seeing the flute on the side of the ship.

– Has the ship sorted?

– Yes but not much.

Did you notify them at home?

– This is not everyone who brought the phone. Neither do I. But we helped to call. And luckily it was early on the web that there were no deaths or injuries. At home with me, nobody was worried.

– What's up now?

– Most have gone home. Then we'll meet again this weekend, Sander says.
