Two women in the thirties demand from the municipality of Tysfjord a total of NOK 16 million, as the municipality did not intervene in the sense of a failure of long-term care.
This is the second case of compensation raised against the municipality in the so-called Tysfjord case, which began when eleven women and men appeared before VG in the summer of 2016 and shared their stories of abuse. This is the second time this year that the municipality of Tysfjord receives a significant claim of this type against itself.
"In this case, we have good evidence that the authorities and the municipality knew that these girls lived in a harmful education environment, without that being done sufficiently," says lawyer Sicilie Kanebog at NRK.
Lawyer Kanebog believes that the municipality and the child protection service have been extremely passive in this case.
"They have just implemented new home relief measures, but this has not been an improvement for girls," says Kanebog.
Lawyer Roald Angell represents the municipality of Tysfjord in this case. He believes that it is sad, but states that there is no reason to hold the municipality responsible for the damage.
"There is no one in the municipality who acted negligently or with respect to the applicant's education," Angell said.
The trial begins on November 15 and is set for seven days.
