This cruel

How can you summarize the new class A as easily as possible?

When classes A and B of previous generations arrived, my better half was not particularly excited. I remember specific words very well, but I should not quote it directly. The content could be translated by the fact that a Mercedes that was so much worse than the other models made no sense.

But when Class A arrived in a new generation (W177), the reaction was completely different. Suddenly it was a car she thought the family had to buy.

A completely different world

The previous generation of Class A was in many ways a very strange concept. The goal was to attract new customers to Mercedes, but their goal was to create a golf competitor focused on perceived quality, miles away from what you've found in larger models.

Inside, a lot of things concern both big screens and voting possibilities.

Along the way, you have had some fun experiences. The hysterical A43 AMG is still one of the most hysterical cars we've driven, and the A250 Sport gave the same feeling at a much lower price.

However, as a total package, never gave an ordinary meaning to an ordinary class A.

Class A is surprisingly low in profile.

It stretches against the big

The new generation, on the other hand, is a completely different animal. Instead of creating a car that clearly stands out from the comfort and luxury of Mercedes or its fame, they created a brand new little car as stuffed with technology and luxury as possible.

The interior can only be described as anything other than the class leader.

The steering wheel is recovered directly from the big brother. The resolution of the screen is the same. The technology behind the screens, on the other hand, is a S-class slot. The fact that the car is technologically free is underlined by a detail that makes it does not have a normal USB connection, but only a USB-C connector.

The head-up display (HUD) is obviously in place. If you pay for it.

Mercedes manufactures a lot of the car's voice control features, which allows you to do a lot with simple voice commands: "Hey, Mercedes."

Since Mercedes has already done a lot of things on this and voice commands do not work in Norwegian, we just let that be mentioned.

What is less communicated, is that the upgraded infotainment system is directly brilliant, even if you do not use the voice. You can use Apple Car Play, but the system is almost so good that we wonder why.

Of course, it's helpful to replace the central console management solution with an advanced punched panel that actually works.

Adult driving experience

The engine of our test car is an all-new 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that develops a great power of 163 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and a torque of 250 Nm from 1620 rpm. The cancer is transmitted by the sleek and silky Mercedes 7-speed automatic transmission and ends on the front wheels.

Combined with a surprisingly forgiving yet competent drivetrain, it allows the vehicle to best meet Mercedes' reputation as a supplier of comfortable driving performance with low power surplus.

It's mostly the ability of the car to handle a very bad road that impresses, while you have a little fun when turns come. The sportier features are not expected from a normal motor Mercedes, but as you can see, the Germans have not made it remarkably high. It means something.

The sound level is low, the Burmester sound system is one of the best on the market, the comfort of sports seats is remarkable – and in many ways it's easy to think that Mercedes was the best car in the category.

Everything is fine, not quite top class. Sports seats and child seats are not an optimal combination in the compact class. And while the paper's luggage compartment is relatively spacious by 370 liters, the trunk is a bit more delicate than what you get in the A3.

conclusion

The new Class A appears in many ways, as it should have been from the beginning: A small Mercedes that does not fit the DNA. They have taken the opportunity to fill the car with everything you can dream about equipment on a car of this size and it has an amazing success.

At the same time, quality costs. Our test car has a list price including shipping costs of 392,900 crowns before being packed with 161,600 crowns with optional equipment.

The total price will then be over 550,000 crowns for a golf competitor. To that end, you will get a custom-built Golf GTI.

In addition, this makes it a vehicle that surpasses the competition, including the Burmester audio system, the unique infotainment system, the HUD, the huge AMG wheels, the panoramic roof and a range of active safety systems.

The biggest challenge is that you can forget to get it in an electric or hybrid car.

Likewise, here you can get more fresh news and fresh opinions!
