Netflix announced today the creation of a new original Norwegian series. The project is to film it in Norway and Denmark in 2019.
The title of the series is Ragnarok And from the title, it is not hard to guess that we are going to Norwegian mythology, albeit in a modern variant.
In a press release, Netflix writes the following about the series:
"This six-part series, in the Norwegian language, takes place in the fictional city of Edda, in the middle of the great and charming Norwegian countryside, and is a story of modern renewal with roots in Norwegian mythology – setting scene for a high school. "
Everyday theme
The series was created notably by Adam Price, one of Denmark's most famous screenwriters. He is responsible for several award-winning and critically acclaimed television shows, including BAFTA Borgen and more recently Climb on the storm.
"The series touches on the climate challenge, which concerns us not only in the Nordic countries, but also worldwide," writes Price in the press release.
He keeps on:
"The poles are melting at a rate that no one expected, we are going through longer periods of drought, the winters are too hot, and more and more, we are experiencing extreme cold weather in all weather conditions. The world is changing and we can say that we are moving towards a new Ragnarok, if no one takes the time.
In early spring, Netflix announced an increasing focus on original content from Europe. Now they are doing the best of the Nordic region.
"Europe is a priority area for us." 55 of the titles currently in production are European – we are looking for content that is appreciated locally but at the same time has global market potential, "said Erik Barmack, head of international productions at Netflix. when Aftenposten struck him in Rome earlier this year.
