Contemporary Norwegian composer Nils Henrik Asheim won the Nordic Council 2018 Music Prize.

Asheim was nominated for the work "Muohta" for chorus and string orchestra, composed as correspondence with "Seasons" of Joseph Haydn from 1801.

He also receives 350,000 Danish kroner, or about 450,000 Norwegian kroner.

Asheim was born in Oslo in 1960, but now lives in Stavanger. Aged 58, he studied at the College of Music of Norway and was named earlier this fall Knight of the First Year of the Order of St. Olav for his efforts in Norwegian music. He has already won numerous awards, including the Game Man Prize twice, in 2005 and 2010, respectively.

Synne Skouen also nominated

Norwegian composer Synne Skouen was also nominated for the opera "Ballerina", which sparked a keen interest after the creation of the Norwegian Opera and Ballet in the autumn of 2017.

Other Nordic Council awards include:

movie: Icelandic "The woman has problems".

The Norwegian film "Thelma", directed by Joachim Trier, was nominated, but was not won. His previous film, "Louder Than Bombs," won the award in 2016.

Literature: Icelandic Audur Ava Olafsdottir.

From Norway, "I have not seen the world yet" from Roskva Koritzinsky and "Beginners" from Carl Frode Tiller has been nominated. Koritzinsky, 29, is the youngest candidate since the 1970s.
