37 people were injured when "Aurora Explorer" collided with Barentsburg Wharf on Sunday. Ten wounded were sent to the hospital in Tromsø, one of them having been seriously injured.

At NRK, Arctic Explorer General Manager, Stein-Are Blæss Paulsen, stated that the engine port (left) of the boat increased speed when it had to dock to starboard. This means that the boat has changed course and slipped into the dock.

There were about 125 people on board at the time of the accident.

The accident triggered a major helicopter and coastguard action, and three ambulances were sent from the mainland. UNN in Tromsø also sent nine nurses and doctors on a regular flight.

– We are investigating, but it is still early. There remains the questioning and the technical studies of the boat. This is what we are going to do today, said Carina Søreng Monday at Nordlys

Barentsburg is a Russian mining town on Spitsbergen, about 40 kilometers southwest of Longyearbyen.
