An export value of nearly 10 billion represents a fantastic step and clearly shows how important the Norwegian seafood industry is at both global and national levels. The value of exports for October this year is 600 million euros, or 6% more than the previous value code from October 2016. Meanwhile, October 2018 is also historic for salmon. It has never been recorded higher value and volume in a month. Norway exported 104,000 tonnes of salmon for NOK 6.5 billion in October. This represents an increase in volume of 8% and an increase in value of 15% or 827 million NOK compared to last October. So far this year, Norway has exported 862,000 tonnes of salmon for NOK 55.8 billion. This is a volume increase of 7%, while the value has increased by 5% or 2.5 billion NOK compared to the same period last year. The average price of fresh whole salmon in October was NOK 58.39 per kilo compared with NOK 54.50 in October of last year. Poland and France were the largest salmon markets in October.
– The month of October hits all the records and it has several reasons. September was a bit weak, but exports rose sharply in October. Poland and the Netherlands, which are mainly for-profit markets, recorded volume growth of 43% and 29% respectively in October. This gives an indication of a positive consumption trend in other markets, such as Germany. The increase in prices, while the growth in volume indicates an increase in demand for Norwegian salmon, said Seafood analyst Paul T. Aandahl.
