Until December 1, 2018, the Municipality of Oslo is helping housing associations and unions to adopt a greener alternative. After that, the funding will end.

Since 2007, the municipality of Oslo finances housing co-ops and unions that remove fuel oil and the tank to switch to renewable energy. It will end soon. The plan will end on December 1 of this year. And from 1 January 2020, it is forbidden to shoot with fossil oil in Norway.

Requests submitted after the December deadline will not be accepted. This means that the many condominiums and unions in the city that want to get rid of oil only have four months to get the support of the municipality.

– This is urgent

– Now it's going to be fast if you want help getting rid of the lighter to the oil. Housing companies and unions in Oslo who use fossil fuel for heating should put this on the agenda this summer, "says Heidi Sørensen, director of Climate Network

. between 1500 and 2000 large power plants in Oslo, many of which are giant housing that can get help. The amount of your housing assistance depends, among other things, on the type of heating you prefer instead of fossil fuel heating.

The aid is calculated on the basis of the energy needs of the building and up to 50% of the approved costs. READ MORE: The Romantic Red Sky of Oslo is Partly Due to Pollution

An Environmental Time Bomb

There are many good reasons to get rid of fuel and existing tank. "Only in Oslo, there are more than 7,500 oil-fired power plants, which together emit 120,000 tonnes of CO2 a year. This corresponds to 11% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the municipality. So it is good for Oslo to introduce a national ban on oil heating by 2020, says Heidi Sørensen.

In addition, saving money from fossil heating to renewable heating can be saved. The buried oil tank can also be a ticking environmental bomb because it can start to leak and pollute the environment. If the accident occurs, it can be catastrophic for the environment and the wallet.
