Imagine is a competition of musicians aged 17 to 21 organized in many countries and on several continents. This is the first time that there is a national final in Norway.
– Finals are handpicked at UKM festivals across the country. The group that most convinced the jury on Saturday will qualify to play at the Imagine International Film Festival in Maastricht in 2019, said project director Rolf Olsen of the Vestfold County Municipality.
It is the County Municipality that is the organizer of this year's Norwegian Finals, in collaboration with the Jeunesses Musicales Norway (JMN), the Municipality of Tønsberg and UKM Norway.
More than one contest
Imagine is above all a music competition, but also an arena of skills and a meeting place for the young musicians of the group. During the finals of the year, Olsen insisted on this point.
"We bring together the participants on Friday afternoon, engage in sound samples and get to know each other, share meals throughout the weekend, and attend workshops on topics on Saturday morning. such as stage performance and marketing.
The event has many similarities with UKM (Young Cultural Meetings), but there are also significant differences:
– Imagine is only for groups and the young people chosen to play are among the oldest in the UKM. Imagine is, in many ways, the arena for wrestlers who have already participated in the UKM, says the project manager.
Free entry
Saturday's final will be played at. At 6 pm in Støperiet, but starting at 4 pm already, the stage is packed with performances by local bands who have already participated in the UKM. The event is open to the public and the entrance is free.
