The Climate Commission, Julie Andersland (V) in Bergen, asks the NVE to pay special attention to Stølsheimen and other natural areas of Hordaland when new areas of energy development wind turbine will be identified.

"It is important that people in Bergen have access to the largest and least disturbed natural areas in the area," he said in a city council statement.

The statement comes in conjunction with the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Authority (NVE) which is working on a national master plan for the development of wind energy. A number of mountain areas in Hordaland are being analyzed for development.

"In the process of selecting areas for developing wind energy, it is requested to put special emphasis on nature and outdoor living," Andersland writes.

The city council also feared that the extensive development of wind energy, in addition to existing hydropower interventions, could damage the region's reputation.

In addition to Stølsheimen, the city council also highlights the importance of nature to Kvammafjellene, Bergsdalen and the Hardanger and Sunnhordland Coast areas.
