After 3,400 ounces of Friday to become the best in the world in Bergen, between 2 and 3 tons of cheese go directly to the boss once the championship is over.
It's the organizer of the World Cheese Cup that confirms that a lot of cheeses have to be launched after the competition in the Grieghallen this weekend.
– He is experienced for many as a bit special. This is part of the regulatory framework of the EU that we face. It's sad and stupid to see so much cheese thrown out, organizer Bernt Bucher-Johannessen tells TV 2.
He explains that the problem lies in the way the competition is organized and that several participants have delivered too much cheese. As the judges of the cheese competition must know nothing in advance and that the cheeses must be made anonymously, it must be cut and placed on many tables.
A total of 3,472 cheeses participated in this year's World Cup, and the Norwegian Fanaost from Bergen won the most talented prize. Now that the party is over, there is still a lot of cheese, but all the foreign cheese presented in Bergen is now supported by the city's waste management. Instead, it will be transformed into district heating for households in Bergen.
– There are strict rules for foods containing products of animal origin, that is to say of animal origin. If the cheese is located outside the EU, they are no longer allowed to sell it because of rules in force in the EU. Those coming from the EU do not have to launch, "says Aslaug Sandvin, division head at Mattilsynet, for TV 2.
A total of 175 Norwegian cheeses also participated in the contest. On the other hand, these cheeses are not discarded but distributed in tasting or donated to the mission of the Church.
