The start took 7 of 12 possible points under Kjetil Rekdal. Club captain Espen Børufsen likes what is happening in southern Norway.
The Kristiansand team turned into a very important 2-1 win against Stabæk on Sunday.
After 16 games, the start is still under pressure, but it's a Lillestrøm score on safe grounds. Between them, Stabæk is on the qualifying spot.
All three now have 14 points while Eliteseria takes a summer vacation. Børufsen does not underestimate the importance of Sunday's victory.
– It was incredibly delicious. We were totally dependent on these points, and if I realized that, other fights also followed us. So, it was absolutely extremely important. We have also delivered a good game, "said Børufsen.
Defense Defended
Rekdal resumed coaching work at Start a month ago. Before the victory over Stabæk, the 1-1 phase was played against Strømsgodset (h), 2-0 on Kristiansund (h) and 0-2 on Ranheim (b).
Børufsen gives Rekdal a thumbs up for the catches he's made.
– I think it was very good after his entry. He was very clear on the way he wants it, especially on the defensive. We took it better and better. Against Ranheim in the previous match, there was a step back, but here at home we started to take a good turn. Rekdal himself says this about the changes he's introduced in recent weeks:
– We play more forward, having more structure and is more robust and aggressive. I want to start playing like this now, but the team will grow as we improve. In the end, we want to be so good that we can dominate the matches according to our own wishes. Now we sometimes have to play the opponent and play wisely.
Break
Now a small vacation month awaits the starting players. The next match will take place on 6 August against the leader of the Brann series in Bergen. Then the southerners will meet Ranheim (h), Strømsgodset (b) and Odd (h).
Børufsen admits that it would be difficult to resolve a self-study period if it had resulted in a loss in Sunday's core battle.
– There would be a leak. We could not talk too much about the fact that it was an important match, but everyone understood what that meant. When are we given a better starting point towards the autumn season.
