Hurtigruta MS Finnmarken has sailed without water in the pool since mid-March. The reason is a rainfall that the shipping company thought was making the ship heavier than legal.
MS Finnmarken is the largest ship at Hurtigruten – and the only one with a pool. However, since mid-March, passengers had to fight in the small bubble bath on the back deck. The big pool was empty of water and closed
The reason is that calculations showed that the boat was too heavy when the pool was full, writes Dagens Næringsliv. But it now turns out that it's wrong.
– The ship has never been too heavy. According to communications manager, Rune Thomas Ege, in Hurtigruten, it is simply a rainfall
Precipitation has caused the ship's weight to be too high at 41.7 tons. The mistake was that the ship also sailed for a month with fewer cargoes than it could bring.
Hurtigruten can then repay the state aid received for transporting goods as the ship has shipped less goods.
Hurtigruten now updates the details of the weight calculations before the pool is filled with water again.
– We are still working on the details in the calculations and hope to fill the pool as soon as possible, says Ege.
