Following advice, Finanstilsynet made a check from the Marton real estate agency in Bergen in February. A recent audit report shows that Marton operated illegally in a number of areas:

  • There were no established branches in Oslo and Stavanger
  • Neither Oslo nor Stavanger had professional staff as real estate agents. did not take control of the client's money.
  • The computer system was inadequate and assignments were not made in a secure system.

The report reveals that the discrepancies were so serious that the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority considered changing the permission granted to Marton to engage in real estate brokerage. Bergens Tidende also referred to the audit report.

– We will follow the company with new supervision soon. If we find equally serious discrepancies, we must end the operation, "said Geir Haatveit, special advisor to the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority.

The newly created brokerage company has launched as a cheaper real estate agent. The customer will never pay more than 25,000 crowns, but must certainly complete the display itself.

After establishing the headquarters in Bergen, Marton expanded to Oslo and Stavanger. They did not ask that as they are required to do it.

– They also did not have a professional with real estate agency expertise in the offices. It's an illegal operation, Haatveit says.

Truls-Petter Bergh, president of Martens, believes that there have been misunderstandings related to what is an office.

– Our understanding was that it was not that there were no real estate agencies because there were vendors in Oslo and Stavanger. These only led the sellers and put the customer in touch with the estate agents in Bergen when the sale was to be completed, "says Bergh.

After the audit, Marton closed the department in Stavanger. In Oslo, they received a professional and continuous operation.

No Control

It also appears that Marton did not control the money that customers had delivered to the company for several months.

– If you receive a million from a customer, you must dispose of these funds. In this case, the company had an undercut of 2.7 million, Haatveit said.

In this case, funds were mis-counted in the accounts and led after the audit. Bergh believes that money for clients has never been in danger.

– The client's money is safe from the start. In addition, we have now strengthened this function with a newly appointed new Deputy Director General

Not afraid of supervision

The Danish Financial Supervisory Authority also found problems with the system computer science of the company.

– The problem here is that the computer system that they used was inadequate, which meant that they did not have sufficient traceability. If you make a change, you should be able to see that the change has been made afterwards. This was not the case here, says Haatveit.

– Why do not you close the operation?

– They have clarified all that we have pointed out and obtained in the area of responsibility, "says Haatveit, in several cases, the permission will be withdrawn.

Bergh confirms to have clarified the differences noted by the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority

"Starting a brand new venture may be difficult, but now we have obviously corrected ourselves for the deviations that have been proven," he says.

– Fear You

– No, we are not afraid of it – in fact, we are happy with the supervision, which has highlighted some of the mistakes we have made, "he says. (Conditions)
