Several guests and crewmembers were injured aboard a Norwegian cruise ship late Sunday night after a gust of extreme wind shook the ship, tipping to port side, according to the cruise company.

Ambulances were waiting Tuesday morning when the Norwegian Escape docked in Port Canaveral in case injured passengers needed extra care.

The seven-day cruise began in New York.

The cruise company stated that the ship had not been damaged and that those who had been injured were being treated by the ship's medical staff.

The cruise company said the extreme gust of wind reached 100 knots, which equates to more than 100 miles an hour.

The cruise line did not say how many people were injured. The ship can carry up to 4,000 passengers and 1,700 crew members.

Passenger Grace Corey stated that she and her boyfriend, Louis Kent, were on the 15th floor of the ship.

"He actually opened the door to our balcony and he just saw a wave come to us," she said about her boyfriend. "He closed it up very quickly and said:" We have to get out of here, something is wrong. "

Kent said that it was clear that something unusual had happened.

"They have an art gallery," he said. "The art was destroyed, there was glass everywhere, there was a lot of damage."

Passenger Richard Green has expressed concern that the vessel will tip over.

"Well, I thought the boat was coming down," he said. "At that time, I said:" That's it, it feels like the boat is turning around. "
