Five Notre Dame football players have tested positive for COVID-19 and six others are in quarantine thanks to contact tracing protocols, the school said Thursday.

The football team called off testing on Thursday and will undergo another round of testing on Friday. The school said it would return to practice based on advice from medical staff.

After the university said earlier in the week that it would switch to distance education until at least September 2 due to the increase in coronavirus cases on campus, people participating in the football program de Notre Dame underwent two rounds of tests this week, for a total of 232 tests. .

Since testing began on June 18, Notre Dame has administered 851 coronavirus tests to members of the football program, with nine positives in total. Of the nine positive points, two were from the initial report.

The university has seen an increase in positive cases since students returned to campus, adding another 75 on Thursday to bring the total to 304.
