NPR released a correction Thursday after falsely reporting that Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop computer had been “discredited by US intelligence services and independent news outlet investigations.”
The inaccurate claim, now amended, was part of a Hunter Biden memoir review, “Beautiful Things”, in which the president’s son details his alcoholic and crack history
“An earlier version of this story indicated that US intelligence had discredited the laptop story. US intelligence officials have not made a statement to that effect,” the NPR correction said.

The notorious laptop, which the New York Post first reported on, is said to contain emails revealing details of its overseas business interests, including contacts in Ukraine and China, as well as a series of unflattering photos of the president’s son.
NPR editor and correspondent Ron Elving first wrote: “The history of the laptop has been discredited by US intelligence services and independent news agency investigations.”
NPR released the correction after critics criticized the nonprofit media organization for the misrepresentation.
The updated version of the NPR story read, “Many news organizations cast doubt on the credibility of the laptop story.”
Fox News learned last year that FBI and Justice Department officials agreed with an assessment by Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe that the laptop was not part of a Russian disinformation campaign targeting then Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Last year, Ratcliffe said that Hunter Biden’s laptop and the emails it contained “were not part of a Russian disinformation campaign,” despite claims by the chairman of the intelligence committee. House, Adam Schiff, D-Calif.
“Let me be clear: the intelligence community doesn’t believe this because there is no intelligence to back it up,” Ratcliffe said. “And we didn’t share any intelligence with Adam Schiff, or any member of Congress.”
Ratcliffe went on to say that it was “just not true”.
Hunter Biden confirmed late last year that he was under federal investigation for his “tax matters” surrounding his overseas business dealings. The FBI has since been in possession of his laptop.
