FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – Officials at Nova Southeastern University have announced that one of their dental clinics has failed to properly sterilize their equipment.

The university issued a statement that said: "Instead of the heat sterilization process called, the material was cleaned with a surface disinfectant. This created a minimal risk of possible exposure to hepatitis B, hepatitis C and the HIV virus for some of our orthodontic patients. "

More than 1,100 of the potentially affected patients have been notified.

The school promised to support the cost of a blood screening test and a medical consultation for each patient.

NSU doctors will also be on call to help patients solve their health problems.
