Nubia has come a long way since introducing a cooling fan in its Red Magic gaming phones. Today, the Chinese brand is back with the Red Magic 6 series based on Snapdragon 888, which not only features a faster internal fan, but also two world firsts in the mobile market: a 165Hz display and up to at 18 GB of RAM. In addition to that, the phones offer fast charging up to 120W (already used by Xiaomi and Vivo), capacitive shoulder triggers at 400Hz and a dual fan and dual TEC (thermoelectric cooling) clip-on cooler in option.
The Red Magic 6 running Android 11 comes in three versions, all of which share the same 6.8-inch FHD + AMOLED display, with 500Hz touch or 360Hz multi-touch sampling for better gaming response. Similarly, these devices carry identical cameras: a 64MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera on the back, plus an 8MP selfie camera on the other side. You will also find a 3.5mm headphone jack throughout the series.
The “basic” Red Magic 6 features a full glass rear body, and is available in “carbon fiber black” or a more flamboyant “cyber neon”. It contains a 5050mAh battery that supports up to 66W of charging, as well as an internal 18,000rpm fan – up from the previous 15,000rpm – to help the vapor cooling chamber and the graphene plate of the phone.
Things get more interesting with the Red Magic 6 Pro which is available in “black iron” or “silver ice blade”, and it adds a piece of aluminum plate to the back to increase heat dissipation. The single battery is replaced with two cells that add up to 4,500mAh, and despite the lower total capacity, this allows for faster charging of 120W – just five minutes brings a dead phone back to 50 percent. Plus, the fan speed on the Pro goes up to 20,000 RPM faster.
And finally, we have the transparent special edition “Dao”, which not only has a bright fan, but also up to 18 GB of RAM.
The Red Magic 6 optimized for Tencent Games is already available to order in China, with the base model starting at 3,799 yuan (around $ 590) and the Pro model starting at 4,399 yuan (around $ 680). The premium transparent edition “Dao” charges 5,599 yuan (approx. $ 865; 16 GB RAM + 256 GB storage) and 6,599 yuan (approx. $ 1,120; 18 GB RAM + 512 GB storage).
The good news for most of us is that Nubia is also preparing for the global launch of the Red Magic 6 series on March 16, which will likely come preloaded with Google services. We will hear more then.
